Reducing Your Household Waste

  • Donate your used and re-usable items to a local charity, church, or shelter
  • Purchase items that will reduce waste, such as buying goods with less packaging (buy in bulk), choosing products that will last longer, and avoid single-use or disposable products.
  • Stop The Junk: Reduce junk mail by getting off the national mailing lists. Write a letter to the Mail Preference Service (MPS) of the Direct Marketing Association (DMA). MPS is a free service provided by DMA to assist Consumers in reducing the amount of unsolicited advertising mail you receive at your home. In your letter, request your name and address to be deleted from all mailing and marketing lists. Be sure to sign on and date your letter. MPS will retain your information in their database for five years and will mail this information to business subscribers four times a year. Send your letter along with $1.00, cheque or money order to:

Mail Preference Service /
