Senior Discount for Trash Service

Information about senior sign-up process

Senior citizens (persons at least 62 years of age (as of 7/1/26) who own the home they live in) in Carson are eligible to receive discounted garbage rates.  The 2026-27 sign-up period will open the week of April 13, 2026.  Renewals must be postmarked by May 15, 2026. New applications must be postmarked by May 31, 2026.  Any renewals/applications postmarked after these dates may not be accepted for the 2026-27 tax year.

Current Discount Holders

Our simple, streamlined process will continue for 2026:

  • Easy to complete renewal form that does not require any documentation.
  • Renew by mail or email.

If nothing has changed since last year, simply have the person who signed the original application initial and sign the renewal.  No documentation is required.   Be sure to send in your renewal by the deadline so that your discount can be applied for next year.  Failure to submit this renewal in a timely fashion may result in loss of the discount and a new application (with valid documentation) will need to be completed next year.

New Applicants

Qualifications:

  • Must own a single-family home in Carson
  • Must live in the property you own
  • Must be 62 years of age or older (as of July 1, 2026 for the 2026-27 tax year)
  • Must provide a copy of your valid photo ID and current property tax bill with the application.

Other Information

  • Application valid for one year only – you must reapply each year
  • Discount does not apply to buildings with 5+ units
  • Discount does not apply to mobile homes
  • There is an option for 32-gallon carts only for seniors receiving the discount; cart size changes can only be done once per year during the enrollment period
  • Because trash is charged on your property tax bill, changes to your trash cart size can only be done during this enrollment period; contact our office to request a form
  • Replacement copies of your tax bill can be obtained from:
    • Los Angeles County Assessor’s Office

Be sure to send in your application by the deadline so that your discount can be applied for the upcoming tax year.
