Senior Discount for Trash Service
Information about senior sign-up process
Senior citizens (persons at least 62 years of age in Carson are eligible to receive discounted garbage rates. THE 2024-25 SIGN-UP PERIOD IS NOW CLOSED. Renewals were due May 15, 2024 and new applications were due May 31, 2024.
The open enrollment period for the 2025-26 tax year will begin in April 2025.
Hard copies of the form were mailed in April 2024.
Current Discount Holders
Current discount holders use a simple, streamlined process for renewal.
Failure to submit a renewal in a timely fashion may result in loss of the discount and a new application (with valid documentation) will need to be completed the following year.
New Applicants
Qualifications:
- Must own a single-family home in Carson
- Must live in the property you own
- Must be 62 years of age or older (as of July 1, 2023 for the 2023-24 tax year)
- Must provide a copy of your valid photo ID and current property tax bill with the application.
Other Information
- Application valid for one year only – you must reapply each year
- Discount does not apply to buildings with 5+ units
- Discount does not apply to mobile homes
- There is an option for 32gallon carts only for seniors receiving the discount; contact our office to request a form
- Because trash is charged on your property tax bill, changes to your trash cart size can only be done during this enrollment period
