Recycling and Mixed Organics Recycling Expands in Gardena and Hawaiian Gardens

Waste Resources continues to roll out programs to meet the requirements of new California regulations (SB 1383) with the addition of recycling and mixed organics recycling carts for all commercial customers in Gardena and Hawaiian Gardens.  Commercial customers include multi-family complexes (5+ units) and businesses with bin or regular roll-off service.  Under SB 1383, customer participation in this program is MANDATORY.

Waste Resources, both City’s exclusive waste hauler, will start distributing carts with blue lids (for dry recyclables such as clean paper, bottles and cans, glass, and some metals) and carts with green lids (for mixed organics such as food scraps, food-soiled paper, and yard waste) on Monday, September 19, 2022, but services start October 3, 2022.  The carts will include a hanger that details what materials go in which cart.

More details about the changes due to these new state regulations can be found on our SB1383 page.
